	The Mission:
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Turn a dilapidated roadside motel on the Eastern Shore of Virginia into a must-stay experience for a new generation of road-trippers.

The Challenge: &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; 
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The property is located far off the beaten track (for context, the closest town is literally called Cheapville) and these renovations must all be completed on a shoestring budget.&#38;nbsp;
The Opportunity:
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; What the area lacks in population, it makes up for in natural beauty. The heart of Cape Charles is a paradise of serene rivers and estuaries, fertile soil and light forests, and protected fisheries and osyter beds.
The Solve:
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Leverage the burgeoning farm-to-table culinary trend by creating a destination hotel and restaurant, complete with its own working farm and foraging program. To conserve costs, we decided to not renovate the outer facade of the building at all, which gives the Motor Lodge an almost speakeasy-esque quality. However, upon entry guests would be immersed in a lush, eco-modern space and have the opportunity to enjoy Michelin-quality food that reflects the natural biodiversity of the surrounding area.

	Dental Services Client - Strategic Consulting
	


	


The Mission:

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; This live-client assignment was done in collaboration with Frontier Communications, a cultural consulting firm in Richmond, for a client in the dental services space (name withheld because of a NDA).
 &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; This client is one of the largest DSOs (Dental Support Organizations) in the nation, managing administrative, financial, and operations for thousands of dental offices nationwide, but they continually struggle with office retention. So Frontier asked us to “get smart” on current and future dentists, identify what that client is good and bad at, and offer some key takeaways and recommendations to get them on the right track.







	


The Obstacles to Overcome: Complexity The world of dental services is one of long P&#38;amp;L sheets, complex graph visualizations, and industry white-papers filled with healthcare and business jargonScarcity Data on dentists, especially private-practice dentists, is both rare and hard to findPresentability And even if we can put something useful together, how do we communicate it without putting people to sleep?

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Nothing beats an easy-to-understand analogy, and we decided to draw from our collective experience in the service industry to paint Dental Service Organizations as the Back-of-House and suppliers at a restaurant; a semi-invisible network and support system of varied services that work to get food to your plate.

Drip-fed Data:

	Before we could get into deeper findings, Frontier needed to get up to speed on how DSOs work and what their goals are, but we couldn’t just throw incontextual reams of data at them and expect to get anywhere. So we did two important things: only presented what absolutely mattered, and broke up that presentation into bite-sized pieces.

Differentiating the Competition:
	In the dental support industry, the vast majority of DSOs look and feel exactly the same, so for our competitive analysis we made sure to highlight their differences and give them each a “character” designation so that their individual brands might stick better in the minds of our audience.

Short and Sweet Takeaways:


	After we had presented a few more slides that went over our primary research, social listening, and pain points findings, we struck a simple, no-BS tone for our takeaways that cut through the clutter of the data and let our audience know exactly what we had found and what it meant.
It may have been harsh, but this low point in the narrative of the deck helped set us up perfectly for our strategic recommendations

	The Problem to Solve:
Glossier was once a cult staple in the beauty world, but a storm of controversies, pandemic-forced store closures, and new entrants has knocked the once-DTC darling off of its pedestal. So, what can this beauty brand do to get it back on top?&#38;nbsp;
Evolving with the Times:

The thing that made Glossier stand out from its competitors in 2015 was its community. Motivated by a popular blog, meetups and forums, and a true sense of belonging, the “Glossier Girls” were effectively an army of earned media for the brand. But as the years went on Glossier began to neglect its most loyal fans, and other beauty brands took inspiration from Glossier and created their own devoted fanbases. In 2022, it’s not enough to just have a community, you need a community that stands for something real —something unique and aspirational that defines the soul of the brand itself.
Creating Something Magical:
That soul I mentioned is what our team began calling “the perfect candid” moment. It’s that moment when you are both at your most beautiful and most real; the stray flyaway drifting across the temple, the recklessly big smile at a silly joke,&#38;nbsp;the feeling of waking up from an afternoon nap, sheer curtains lightly swaying in the open window, sun glancing off the dewy face.

But how can we communicate a feeling that deep and difficult to describe without losing its emotional power?

	A peek into exactly just how much I love whiteboards (virtual or otherwise)



A few weeks ago I hopped on one of my friend’s independent study projects as a strategic consultant. The client is Ticketmaster and their ask was simple: “Find a way to build a community around our brand.”
A bunch of research and a few brainstorm sessions later, we had a lot of data and some really cool ideas, but hadn’t shaped any of it into one coherent, overarching document that outlined the structure and content of what we were building. So, freshly caffeinated and with European progressive house coming through my headphones, I stood in front of a whiteboard for 2 hours and built that document.
This is how it went.

One of the three or so working environments that I’m happiest in is blue-sky building strategy in an empty room, with plenty of coffee and a good soundtrack. The above work is what tends to result.

This work powered the core strategy and communcations direction of a new brand reposition that we named Ticketmaster Pulse

Played a key role in background research for chef’s attitudes towards Wüsthof, as well as used my own experience working in kitchens to identify a sub-audience for chefs that felt real and authentic.
Spearheaded the creation of the audience persona, a process that essentially consisted of our group holing up in a work room for three hours and using our data points to derive personality traits, habits, and values, all to a soundtrack of punk and surf rock.
Directed the general design of the final book, and narrated the “day in the life” persona section with “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath playing

	Poof! Patch - Social Campaign

	One of my many tasks during my internship at Venables Bell &#38;amp; Partners was to serve as lead strategist on a live client project created specifically for the Venables intern team. That client was Poof! Patch, a small, San Francisco-based blemish patch company with a unique aesthetic that was looking to make a splash in the skincare space.
They came to us with two requests:

1. Build a brand identity
2. Launch and sell that identity on Instagram

And with $4,000, a lot of elbow grease, and the help and mentorship of an award-winning agency, that’s what we did.





	

	

Phase 1: Competitive Analysis, Insight, Strategy, and Brief
Poof Patch is a new entrant in their category with barely any content and no clearly articulated position, so I did competitive research to see where they could carve out a niche for themselves as well as attempt to solidify the Poof Patch aesthetic and tone into concrete brand pillars.

Phase Two: Help and guide creative, make it through client review, and present in an all-agency showcase (Japanese pottery metaphor = critical to success)
Round 2 client review was a mad dash of creative changes to hit our August 1st deadline, but my internship team and I got through it and ended our VB&#38;amp;P experience on a high note by flying out to San Francisco to meet our coworkers and present our work.

	Results: Nearly double the amount of Instagram followers, increased engagement via Instagram filters and new video content, and a unique brand voice that stands out when compared to other blemish patch companies


Three Important Things That I Learned:
The real agency world is messy, chaotic and sometimes exasperating, but a strong team and a kind boss go a long way to staying happy and productive.

At Brandcenter Neverland, your professors will never stop you midway through your assignment to tell your creatives to make the font in the print ad bigger, but in the real world clients will absolutely do that, and its best to not only expect that, but be prepared to give and take ground as is necessary.

At the end of the day, everybody just wants to make good work, get along, and go home at 5 pm, and to me, that’s a deeply comforting thing to know.</description>

Welcome To My Mind

The tough part about portfolios for me is that my interests are genuinely so stupidly, incongruously broad that any attempt to condense them down into one or two pet projects is not only futile but, in my opinion, pretty disingenuous. I am at my core an experientialist, and the most important thing in the world to me is experiencing the maximium diversity and amount of things that I can fit into one life. So, in lieu of showing any halfway normal set of pet projects, side hustles, or whatever you call thems, I’ve simply decided to pour a large part of my life into this one specific part of my website.
